Joyce Yin, Soprano

Lyric coloratura soprano Joyce Yin, praised by New York Concert Review for singing with anjoyce-yin-soprano-headshot “otherworldly quality,” brings a committed physicality and depth of emotional connection to the stage. During the 2018-2019 season, her engagements included Cantamos: A Celebration of Spanish-Language Song at the historic United Palace of Cultural Arts, a concert lecture of Spanish Baroque music, Handel’s Messiah with the Downtown Symphony, the Pergolesi Stabat Mater, and Agilea in Handel’s Teseo.
Recognized for her stage presence and acting in both comedic and dramatic roles, recent operatic roles cluded Papagena (Die Zauberflöte) with the Downtown Symphony, Sophie (Werther), Nella (Gianni Schicchi), Giulietta (I Capuleti e i Montecchi), and a radiant run in the title role of Caccini’s Euridice. Additional highlights from past seasons include Ines in Donizetti’s La Zingara with Amore Opera, Linfea in La Calisto with dell’Arte Opera Ensemble, Dorinda in Handel’s Orlando. In particular, Joyce enjoys exploring the complexities and nuances of determined women such as Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Morgana (Alcina), Adele (Die Fledermaus), and Gilda (Rigoletto).
Joyce began her operatic career during her graduate studies when selected to participate in the prestigious joint Arizona Opera/Arizona State University program for the roles of Amore (Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice) and Barbarina (Le nozze di Figaro). Additional roles include La Fée (Massenet’s Cendrillon), Belinda (Dido and Aeneas), Lucy (The Telephone), Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier), Despina (Così fan tutte), Ilia (Idomeneo), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), and Zerlina (Don Giovanni).
As a soloist, Joyce’s concert work ranges from the intimate Bach cantatas to Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem with full orchestra. An expressive concert performer, Joyce has sung with organizations such as the Arizona Bach Festival and the La Jolla Symphony & Chorus. Recent solo highlights include the Messiah with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Pergolesi’s Stabat mater with the Dorian Baroque Orchestra.
Joyce has received awards and scholarships from the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions (Audience Choice Award-San Diego District), Musical Merit Foundation of San Diego, La Jolla Symphony & Chorus Young Artist Competition, and NATS Student Auditions (Arizona, San Diego). She graduated with her M.M. in Opera Performance from Arizona State University.
Joyce currently resides in New York City.
